For 25 years, I have rented Rocky Mountain bikes and would sell the rental fleet annually. My loyalty for the Rocky Mountain brand did run deep*, as I represented Canada in Lucca, Italy, in 1991, on the first RM Blizzard.
With the pandemic and my growing desire to embrace the zero waste philosophy, I have replaced the rental program with a passion for “recycling and fixing bikes”, as part of our Leaders in Training program and staff training. For the last two summers, my rental fleet has been 100% recycled bikes and we are proud of our initiative. If you have old bikes you wish to give or sell, send them my way!
Note: The Friday family day is also a great opportunity to connect with other RPS families and join our zero waste movement since it offers a great place to meet as a community and talk bike. Kids grow fast and money does not grow on trees!
To this day, I will encourage neophyte and beginner riders to rent a hardtail mountain bike to learn on! Call me "'old school" but a hardtail bike, properly fitted by local shop experts, with the proper air pressure, will encourage you to be “active” in the cock pit of the bike and help you navigate technical terrain. Wheel size and tire width will also make a huge difference on your 1st ride. We have four-inch travel in our elbows and knees! Let’s use it! After observing your “riding style”, I can then help you on your journey. Can a mountain bike change a life? Oh yeh!
*The Rocky Mountain bikes I have loved and ridden are the Hammer, Cirrus, Blizzard, Element, Vertex, Instinct, Switch and I now ride a Vertex carbon fibre 29’er.
